my poker game part 2

December 5, 2022

Here is part 1. Read this first.

This is what I mean when I say, “play life as if you weren’t losing…”

There are times in life you’ll be losing or failing. When that happens, you can’t adopt a pessimistic mindset.

Doing that would cause negative emotions (like fear, anxiety, and anger) to take control of your decision-making.

That’s bad.

You need to become optimistic and look at the bright side of life to see the new opportunities coming your way.

So, even if you’re losing, pretend you're not and make decisions based on that.

Here’s a recent example from my life.

I’ve been trying to find a copywriting or sales job for the last few months.

But I’ve hit dead end after dead end. Nothing worked.

Then, three weeks ago, I heard back from a hiring manager. At that moment, I finally felt a feeling of accomplishment. All my hard work paid off.

And then, I opened her email...

And she said they were “unfortunately not hiring anymore” for the position for the rest of the year—and likely not until April 2023.

That message broke my heart.

It was my “losing” moment.

I could have sulked around and complained, but I didn’t. Instead, I emailed her and asked for advice on my job search journey.

That’s when she said one sentence that triggered a “lightbulb moment'' in my head…

I do know there has been a slow down at the moment in terms of hiring.

Those simple words made me realize that no matter how hard I worked for someone to hire me full-time, they may never do it.

But here’s the Catch-22…

They’re not likely to hire me, yet they still need someone to do the job for them.

That’s when I realized what I had to do…

I have to build something myself.

I need my own One Person Agency to do the work I love, get paid to do it, and help small businesses.

I’m now on a journey to start my own business—an email marketing agency targeted at small businesses.

If I had played life like I was losing after receiving that email, I would have never made the decision to start my own business.

That’s the power of playing life as if you weren’t losing.

It opens your mind.

It allows you to see the positives hidden within the negatives.

Now that you know about this next chapter of my life, I need one favor from you.

The toughest part about starting a business is finding that first client.

I have strategies in place, but who better to help me find my first than you.

I mean, you do know my writing better than anyone else.

So, if you know someone with a personal brand or small business, it’ll be a tremendous help if you could reply to this email and pass along some names to me.

Every name makes a difference.
